In today's fast-paced work environment, it's indeed challenging for leaders to navigate through the complexities of managing teams, especially when resources are limited, and organizational values aren't well-defined. The pressure can push us to the brink, revealing our most vulnerable selves. Yet, it's in these moments of struggle that many find strength in their faith. The hope found in Christ can be a powerful force, offering resilience and a steadfast spirit to weather the storms of professional challenges.
During a chaotic and confusing work environment, one can experience loneliness leading to emptiness. During one of these daunting seasons, as part of a life group I lead with other women we studied Richard Foster's 'Celebration of Discipline' which offers profound insights into how solitude can lead to inner fulfillment, rather than emptiness. He talked about the concept of 'the dark night of the soul' which is not about despair, but rather a deepening of the spiritual journey, a chance to release oneself from distractions and draw closer to a 'divine center'. It's a powerful reminder that sometimes, it is in the quiet and still moments that we find the most growth and understanding.
Through this process, we can grapple with the choice between justifying our position driven by fear or self-righteous or surrender and enter stillness before God and trust God to be our advocate before the accuser. While articulating our stance can be necessary on occasions with discernment, sometimes embracing silence and stillness can be a powerful step towards inner peace and understanding. Jamie Phear, a member on the Board of WELL, wrote a profound piece called ‘Into the quiet’ which explores solitude, which I’d encourage you to read if you are experiencing a similar season.
Reimagining leadership through faith and resilience in challenging environments is a powerful journey. It's about harnessing ‘joy of the Lord is my strength’ and conviction to drive transformation. Women sharing these circumstances can indeed be the catalysts for positive change, embodying the tenacity to shape a better future from within. This resolve is not just a personal armour but a beacon that can inspire and uplift entire communities. It's a testament to the enduring spirit that thrives on hope and determination.
Leadership through faith is not passive; it's an active, daily commitment to embodying our beliefs in all interactions. My personal hope is that women of faith will rally together at their workplaces and be a source of light in dark places and an instrument for change and an encouragement for each other. To support you on this journey, WELL, will once again curate a Wise WELL Woman Summit in 2025 scheduled for April 26, 2025, where you will meet and hear from women with powerful testimonies and how they translate into reorienting their leadership around God. You can book your Early Bird tickets at Wise Well Woman Summit 2025. Once you have booked your tickets, spread the word to women at your workplace Christian networks and your communities.
For those who attended Wise WELL Woman Summit 2024, you heard from Shawnna Hoffman, who moderated a panel on ‘Embrace the future - the profound influence of faith amidst the transformative landscape of the 5th Industrial Revolution’.  Shawnna Hoffman will be speaking on ‘Faith in the age of AI’ on November 25, 2024, at St. Paul’s Centre, Queen Caroline Street, London, W6 9PJ at 7 p.m. You can register for free here.
